Tenby & The Pembrokeshire Coast

Tenby & The Pembrokeshire Coast

Tenby is a uniquely attractive resort, its pastel coloured buildings, ‘Olde Worde’ narrow streets, fortified walls and quality of light give it an atmosphere which is reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Guarded by the remains of a Norman Castle (bombarded into submission by Cromwell), the town has excellent shopping, traditional pubs and cosy eateries. There are four magnificent sandy beaches and a delightful harbour which is always busy with pleasure craft along with the regular ferries which serve the secluded monastic island of Caldey,

Our base in Tenby is once again the comfortable BELGRAVE HOTEL which is ideally situated on the esplanade with panoramic views over the south beach, and beautiful Caldey Island. The Belgrave features a large refurbished lounge/bar (with entertainment on some evenings) and restaurant serving fine locally sourced food. All of the en suite bedrooms have a tv and hospitality tray. Please note – there are no ground floor rooms available and whilst there is a passenger lift, some stairs on each floor make the hotel unsuitable for the very elderly, less mobile.

Sunday 2nd May
Departing Newark we travel via Warwickshire before joining the motorway which takes us into Wales. We then continue via the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the coast at Tenby.

Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May – Friday 7th May
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day scenic tour via Haverfordwest to St David’s – the smallest city in the British Isles.
• Full day at leisure to explore the attractive resort of Tenby.
• Full day tour calling at Carmarthen (which lays claim to being the oldest town in Wales) before continuing via Laugharne (home of poet Dylan Thomas) and Pendine Sands. This 8 miles long beach has been used for many land speed record attempts and some of the vehicles are available to view at the Museum of Speed.
• Half day visit to the nearby pretty fishing village of Saundersfoot with its superb sandy beaches and attractive harbour.
• Visit to Picton Castle & Gardens. Picton’s castle-like exterior belies the stately home it was transformed into in the 18th century and the stunning gardens include both woodland and walled areas, a Welsh Owl Garden and a lovely courtyard restaurant where we will be served a cream tea.
