St Ives & The Isles of Scilly

St Ives & The Isles of Scilly

8 DAYS FROM £479

St Ives is perhaps one of the most famous holiday towns in Cornwall with its crystal blue waters and golden sands. The old town is a maze of cobbled streets filled with flowers and lined by fishermen’s cottages leading to the delightful old harbour where fishing boats still moor alongside the granite piers. As well as its tradition of fishing, St Ives is renowned as an art centre and has many studios, shops and galleries including The Tate St Ives, part of The Tate Gallery in London. The archipelago that makes up the Isles of Scilly is a sub tropical paradise which lies 28 miles off the southwest coast of Cornwall.

Please note – the nature of Cornwall’s hilly landscape does make this tour unsuitable for the less able/those with walking difficulties.

For 2018, we are very pleased to return to the comfortable COTTAGE HOTEL which is situated in extensive grounds overlooking Carbis Bay, 300 yards from the beach and two minutes walk from Carbis Bay railway station (a scenic 5 minute journey into St Ives). The Cottage features a tv lounge, 2 bars, a restaurant and a sun lounge with lovely views over the bay along with a large ballroom with entertainment on most evenings. All the en suite bedrooms feature tv, telephone, hairdryer and hospitality tray. A passenger lift serves most floors (but please note the entertainment room is only accessible by stairs).

Sunday 6th May
Departing Newark early morning, we principally utilize the motorway system to take us southwards into Devon. Then skirting Dartmoor, we proceed via Bodmin into Cornwall to the coast at St Ives.

Monday 7th – Saturday 12th May
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Perhaps the highlight of the tour – a full day visit by sea to St Mary’s in the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Explore Hugh Town’s cluster of shops, galleries and tea shops or sit by the quayside and watch the boats to and from the other islands come and go.
• Full day tour including a visit to the maritime port of Falmouth – the gateway to the beautiful Fal River. Visit the maritime museum or perhaps take a trip aboard the ferry to the pretty fishing village of St Mawes.
• Full day visit to the Eden Project. Nestled in a huge crater, massive Biomes house a large rainforest along with stunning plants, exhibitions and striking contemporary gardens. Time permitting we will call at the pretty port of Charlestown with its working harbour often used as a location for filming – most recently in the BBC’s adaptation of Poldark.
• Visit to the National Trust owned Trengwainton – a beautiful garden bursting with exotic trees and shrubs famed for its display of azaleas and rhododendrons.
Time permitting we will return via Marazion to view the National Trust owned St Michael’s Mount.
