South Cornwall 'Steam & Cream'

South Cornwall 'Steam & Cream'

BASED AT THE BEST WESTERN RESTORMEL LODGE HOTEL

DEPARTS MONDAY 2ND OCTOBER

RETURNS SATURDAY 7TH OCTOBER

6 Days from £387

From the windswept Coastwatch station at Rame Head in the East, to the tranquil

scenery of the Helford River toward the West, the South coast of Cornwall is

full of contrasts. With sandy coves and bays, the sea is framed by whitewashed

fishing villages, harbour towns and exotic sub-tropical gardens whilst inland you’ll

find a host of pretty villages and market towns. Lostwithiel (the former capital of

Cornwall) lies tucked away in the Fowey valley hidden by richly wooded hills and

is known as being the antiques capital of Cornwall with its many markets, fairs

and shops.

Our base here is the very comfortable BEST WESTERN RESTORMEL LODGE

HOTEL which is located in the heart of the town. Features of the hotel include

a restaurant, bar, lounge and coffee shop where drinks and snacks are

available throughout the day. All of the well furnished en suite bedrooms have tv,

telephone, hairdryer, iron/ironing board and hospitality tray. Please note although

the hotel does not have a lift, bedrooms are situated on either the ground or first

floor or in the adjacent courtyard block.

Please note – restricted coach drop off points and the hilly nature of Cornwall

make this holiday unsuitable for the less mobile. Some walking will be required

to fully enjoy all the excursions on offer.

BRIEF ITINERARY

Monday 2nd October
Departing Newark early morning, we principally utilise the motorway system to take us south west into Devon. Then skirting Dartmoor, we proceed into Cornwall and our base at Lostwithiel.

Tuesday 3rd – Friday 6th October
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day tour including a ride aboard The Bodmin & Wenford Heritage Railway - the only full-size railway in Cornwall which operates a 13 mile journey through scenic Cornish countryside, evocative of a 1950’s Branch Line. We return via a delicious cream tea at the Camel Trail Tea Garden.
• Full day tour calling at the Eden Project dubbed the ‘Eighth Wonder Of The World’ and probably Cornwall’s best known tourist attraction. Nestled in a huge crater, massive Biomes house a large rainforest along with stunning plants and exhibitions.
• Full day tour including a return train ride aboard the Looe Valley Line – one of the Great Scenic Trains of Cornwall. Our coach will make the short transfer to Liskeard where we board our train for the journey to the historic port of Looe. Heavily wooded valleys teeming with wildlife open up to glorious estuary views as the river meets the sea. After an afternoon at leisure in Looe, our coach will collect us for the return journey to our hotel.
• Half day visit to the historic town of Fowey, a small bustling port with many interesting shops and delightful cafes/tearooms.

Saturday 7th October
Departing Lostwithiel after breakfast we retrace our steps so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
