Predominantly filmed on location in West Cornwall, Poldark is one of the most watched series to have hit our tv screens! With its enchanting scenery, breathtaking views, golden sandy beaches and quaint stone built villages, the county provides a perfect backdrop for Poldark’s plot of passion in the tin mining era of the 18th century. Our base is St Agnes, a former tin mining and fishing village set in the heart of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which doubled as Poldark’s Nampara Valley estate in the series. Dominated by St Agnes Beacon, the village boasts many cafes, restaurants, craft shops and galleries and ‘stippy stappy’ sea captains’ cottages.

Please note - the nature of Cornwall’s hilly landscape does make this tour unsuitable for the less able/those with walking difficulties.

Highly praised by our clients for several years, our base in St Agnes is once again the very comfortable, family run AA3* ROSEMUNDY HOUSE HOTEL, an elegant Queen Anne Residence set in over four acres of secluded gardens and woodlands. The nearest beach at beautiful Trevaunance Cove is less than a mile away and the quaint centre of St Agnes village just a short walk along the main street. Tastefully extended, the Rosemundy has several lounges, a bar and the ‘Tom Noggi’ Restaurant, named after the little people who lived and worked in the nearby tin mines. Naturally all of the en suite bedrooms feature tv and hospitality tray. Unfortunately, there is no lift but all bedrooms are situated on the 1st or 2nd floor.

BRIEF ITINERARY

Friday 24TH May
Departing Newark early morning, we principally utilise the motorway system to take us southwards into Devon. Then skirting Dartmoor, we proceed via Bodmin into Cornwall and the coast at St Agnes.

Saturday 25th – Tuesday 28th May
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day tour including a visit to Bodmin Jail and a tour of this historic prison where Ross Poldark was locked up while he awaited his fate in series two. You’ll also see the execution pit that still works and hear real-life stories of the inmates that were held here over its 150-year reign as a working jail. We then continue on to the lovely seaside resort of Padstow for the afternoon.
• Full day tour calling at the picturesque village of Charlestown which stands in for the city of Truro in the series. See the original Grade II listed harbour where tall ships are often berthed and be transported back to Poldark’s era! In the afternoon we visit Perranporth, the home of Poldark author Winston Graham, with its golden sands, clear waters, spectacular cliff walks and surf.
• Full day tour including a visit to the maritime port of Falmouth, the gateway to the beautiful Fal River. Visit the maritime museum or perhaps take a trip aboard the ferry to the pretty fishing village of St Mawes.
• A full visit to St Ives with its fishing harbour and magnificent beaches which are backed by a glorious maze of narrow streets & alleyways. Artists are attracted to the resort because of its ‘clean light’ and the Tate St Ives is located here. Please note some necessary walking is required on this day due to restricted coach access to the town.

Wednesday 29th May
Departing St Agnes after breakfast, we retrace our steps, so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
