The North Devon coast is noted for its high cliffs, golden sandy beaches, rugged moors and verdant valleys. Exmoors heather clad moorlands and sparkling rivers are dotted with medieval towns and villages along with an abundance of wildlife including wild ponies and majestic red deer. Nestling between Exmoor National Park to the east and the golden surfing beaches to the west, the coastal town of Ilfracombe is the jewel of the North Devon coast with its white washed houses, grand Victorian villas and terraces.
For 2021, we are pleased to return to the very comfortable family run OSBORNE HOTEL which is situated close to the High Street and Tunnel Beaches. Features of the Osborne include a traditional restaurant, bar, lounge and ballroom with entertainment each evening. All of the simply furnished en suite bedrooms have tv, and hospitality tray. A passenger lift serves all floors.
BRIEF ITINERARY
Bank Holiday Monday 31st May
Departing Newark early morning, we travel via Warwickshire and the scenic Cotswolds to join the motorway which takes us southwards into Devon. We then travel along the coast so to our base at Ilfracombe.
Tuesday 1st – Thursday 3rd June
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Tour along the coast to the pretty ‘twin’ towns of Lynton & Lynmouth which are joined by a unique water powered cliff railway. This evening we will visit Borough Farm for a Falconry Display and fabulous sheepdog demonstration by David Kennard star of Channel 5’s Mist –Sheepdog Tales.
• A ride aboard the scenic West Somerset Steam Railway from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard where our coach will meet us for a journey back through the Exmoor National Park
• After a free morning at leisure in Ilfracombe, we make the short journey to the medieval Chambercombe Manor for a guided tour. Dating back to the 11th century the manor is mentioned in the Domesday Book and is reputedly one of the most haunted buildings in the country! After our tour there will be free time to explore the beautiful three acres of gardens before enjoying an afternoon
Devonshire cream tea.
Friday 4th June
Departing Ilfracombe after breakfast, we retrace our steps, so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
