The county of Lanarkshire is situated in the heart of Scotland and offers an ideal combination of tranquil parks and market towns from the rolling hills of the Clyde Valley to the beautiful walking country of East Dunbertonshire; all within a stone’s throw of the city lights of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Our base for the tour is the UNESCO Lanark World Heritage Site – a beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village surrounded by native woodlands and close to the famous Falls of Clyde. Founded by David Dale in 1785 this cotton spinning village was a model industrial community where child labour was abolished and workers were provided with decent homes, schools and free health care. Today the fascinating history of the village is brought back to life in an award winning Visitor Centre, Millworker’s House, 1930’s period store and historic classroom.

Forming part of the World Heritage Site is our base for the tour, the superb NEW LANARK MILL HOTEL, a stunning award winning conversion of an original mill offering wonderful views across the conservation area and River Clyde. The hotel has been imaginatively converted, keeping many original features such as Georgian architecture and barrel vaulted ceilings. Features of the hotel include a Health & Fitness Club with pool, gymnasium, sauna and steam room and a unique Roof Garden which at 9000 square feet is the largest of its kind in Scotland and offers spectacular bird’s eye views of the surrounding natural scenery and historic village. All of the en suite bedrooms enjoy superb views and feature tv, telephone, hairdryer and hospitality tray. A passenger lift serves all floors.
