Covering 145 square miles the New Forest is a place of ancient history, fascinating wildlife and stunning beauty. Originally a royal hunting preserve, the forest is now home to over 3000 wild ponies. The south coast resort of Bournemouth has an excellent sunshine record and its glorious sandy beaches are amongst the safest and cleanest in Europe. There are many shops, cafés and bistros giving a cosmopolitan atmosphere and for the evening, varied entertainment and nightlife.
Our base in Bournemouth is once again the very comfortable resort style CUMBERLAND HOTEL which is located on the seafront overlooking the East Cliff. Having achieved Bournemouth’s Highest AA 3 Star Hotel rating in 2014, the Cumberland features an award winning restaurant, comfortable lounge, bar café and outdoor pool. Guests also have complimentary use of the facilities at the Cumberland’s sister hotel next door which include an indoor pool, sauna, gymnasium and squash courts. Naturally all the well appointed en suite bedrooms have tv, hairdryer, telephone and hospitality tray. A passenger lift serves all floors.
BRIEF ITINERARY
Monday 4th June
Departing Newark early morning we travel via Leicester into Warwickshire then over the Berkshire Downs, so to the coast at Bournemouth.
Tuesday 5th – Friday 8th June
Scheduled excursions during our stay will include the following:
• Full day tour including a visit to the stunning Hillier Gardens & Arboretum. With its art exhibition, gift shop, plant centre and delightful restaurant and tearooms, the garden features the most comprehensive and unrivalled collection of trees, shrubs and hardy plants in the UK. A particular highlight in June is the Centenary Border (the longest double herbaceous border in the country)
which will be a kaleidoscope of colour.
• Full day tour including a 90 minute cruise from Poole Harbour aboard the Dorset Queen – a 1938 vintage motor yacht with wonderful viewing deck, lounge and fully licenced bar. A live commentary will point out Millionaires’ Row (Sandbanks) and Brownsea Island and a cream tea will be served on vintage china on board.
• Half day visit to the harbour town of Lymington with its pretty cobbled streets in the old town and a Quay where you can watch the luxury yachts and fishing boats come and go.
• Free day at leisure in Bournemouth.
Saturday 9th June
Departing Bournemouth after breakfast we retrace our steps, so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
