A Scottish Christmas (based in Perth)

A Scottish Christmas (based in Perth)

5 Days from £373

Often referred to as ‘Big Tree Country’ Perthshire offers a breathtaking variety

of scenery from its serene glens and endless expanses of lush forest, to its

bleakly beautiful moors, rushing rivers and tumbling waterfalls. Perfectly

situated along the banks of the River Tay, Perth is a sheer joy to explore on foot.

Sandwiched between two sweeping public parks, the compact but buzzing

cosmopolitan hub boasts many fine restaurants and cafes, outstanding venues

and great shopping.

Our base in Perth is the very comfortable SALUTATION HOTEL ideally situated

in the heart of the city just a short walk from the shops and theatres. Dating back

to 1699, the Salutation is reputedly Scotland’s oldest hotel and can count Bonnie

Prince Charlie as a guest! Features of the hotel include a relaxing bar/lounge and

fine restaurant with barrel vaulted ceiling and magnificent neoclassical 24 pane

Adam window. All of the en suite bedrooms feature tv, hairdryer, telephone and

hospitality tray. A passenger lift serves all floors.

Saturday 23rd December
Departing Newark early morning, we travel north via the Cheviot Hills and Edinburgh before crossing the Forth Road Bridge to our base at Perth where we are welcomed with afternoon tea. A glass of bubbly precedes our evening meal which will be followed by Christmas Carols sung by the local Salvation Army Choir.

Sunday 24th December (Christmas Eve)
After a leisurely breakfast we have a morning visit to the Crieff Visitor Centre (home of the world-renowned Caithness Glass) with its popular restaurant and shop where you could maybe pick up a last minute present! We then return to the hotel for a light lunch and a relaxing afternoon spent in and around the hotel – perhaps join in the quiz before our evening meal followed by traditional Scottish musical entertainment. Those who wish, may walk to a local Midnight Mass Service – mince pies and tea will be served by the fire on your return.

Monday 25th December (Christmas Day)
After a leisurely breakfast, perhaps enjoy a stroll along the banks of the River Tay before our traditional Christmas Lunch and a visit from Santa! The Queens speech
is followed by tea and cake and a cold buffet will be served later in the evening.

Tuesday 26th December (Boxing Day)
After breakfast our coach will depart for a short scenic tour via Dunkeld and Blairgowrie before returning to the hotel for home made broth and sandwiches. Relax in and around the hotel in the afternoon or maybe have a stroll to the shops and pick up a sale bargain! Our evening meal tonight will be followed by entertainment.

Wednesday 27th December
Departing after breakfast we retrace our steps so home to Newark for approximately teatime.
